SGO is delighted to announce that The Bachelor King 3D, Meerkats 3D and Kingdom of Plants 3D with David Attenborough, which were all post produced at ONSIGHT using Mistika, have won the
“2012 International 3D Society Lumiere ™ Award-Europe for Outstanding Achievement for Documentary”.
The Bachelor King 3D was produced by award-winning producer Anthony Geffen, CEO of Atlantic Productions, and the Atlantic Productions team for Sky 3D, and is about the journey of a typical King Penguin from awkward adolescent to adulthood. ONSIGHT provided camera solutions as well as full post production. The latter took place at their Soho suites in London, using Mistika systems. ONSIGHT’s Lab and Post departments, backed up and processed offline rushes, followed by the conforming and online stages, which included all the technical Stereo 3D adjustments in Mistika. Visual effects were also covered by the team for various fixes and elements. Mistika was also used for all the Stereo 3D colour grading in the film where ONSIGHT’s Colourist, Andy Lee, perfected the production to enhance the sheer beauty of the stark landscape and its characters. The third dimension in the documentary added depth to the narrative elements, bringing a realistic essence to a wilderness, encapsulated by breath-taking cinematography. The Bachelor King 3D aired exclusively on Sky 3D TV on New Year’s Eve last year, as a prelude to its upcoming worldwide theatrical release this year.
After the huge success of Oxford Scientific Films’ Meerkat Manor, a 3D version for Sky 3D and National Geographic was created, titled Meerkats 3D. The latest 3D technology from shoot to post, including Mistika, was used at ONSIGHT for the hour-long documentary, produced by Oxford Scientific Films in association with Principal Large Format. The film takes viewers on a journey following a family of meerkats as they cope with the twists and turns of life in the African Kalahari Desert. Meerkats 3D was shown on the Sky 3D channel and a 2D version on Nat Geo Wild (Sky channel 528).
ONSIGHT used SGO’s Mistika Stereo 3D technology to reveal a whole new dimension in the lives of plants, from the most bizarre to the most beautiful in Kingdom of Plants 3D with David Attenborough, produced by Atlantic Productions for Sky 3D. Shot over the course of a year, using more than 8 camera formats overseen by ONSIGHT, David Attenborough could fully explore their world at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, like never seen before. Through 3D time-lapse and pioneering techniques in 3D macro photography, he traces them from their origins on land to their crucial place in nature today, exposing new revelations along the way. He moves from our time scale to theirs, revealing the true nature of plants as creatures every bit as dynamic and aggressive as animals. Kingdom of Plants 3D with David Attenborough aired on Sky 3D and Sky Atlantic HD.
