Meduza Systems Announces Availability of TITAN 3D Camera and World Tour
Stand 9.C26, IBC 2012
The Meduza TITAN, the first fully controllable, lightweight, 3D precision single HD camera wil be ‘Live on Stage’ at the IBC convention Amsterdam at Hall 9. C26.
With two 1080p CMOS sensors and a 3ality Technica™ integrated remote control system for focus, iris, IA and convergence control, Meduza offers a full professional solution for 3D television production.
Meduza will begin shipping deliveries of the TITAN System from November 2012, but in the meantime, IBC will be the launchpad for a worldwide series of demonstration events that will cover more than 26 sountries.
According to Chris Cary, CEO of the Irvine-based Meduza Systems™ Ltd, developer of the TITAN, the tour, which will cover more than 26 countries in the next 6 months, including Netherlands, Germany, UK, USA, Italy, Norway, China, Singapore and Malaysia, will bring the TITAN directly to the doorstep of rental houses, producers and broadcasters to demonstrate how they can now produce high-level and fully-controllable S3D effortlessly and at considerably lower cost. “We are so excited by the camera’s capability and flexibility and have so many companies waiting for demonstrations that we decided to go on the road and show off what we have” says Cary.
A Truly Professional and Controllable Single-Camera S3D Solution
The Meduza TITAN has been one of the most talked about and anticipated developments in S3D production since its announcement 18 months ago, and has progressed rapidly from concept and invention to delivery. “Previewing our concept for a fully integrated, fully controllable, modular S3D camera in 2011, was an unprecedented step,” says Cary. “From the beginning we wanted to show the industry what we were capable of building, that someone was thinking outside of the box and was finally going to build a truly professional and controllable single-camera S3D solution. During the last few months we have been perfecting the software and hardware modularity systems so that in the longer term, our customers will have invested in the fully flexible and interchangeable system including the high-speed, 4K and other sensor variations we promised them.”
3ality Control System
The perfected integrated control system from 3ality Technica provides a plug and play interface that is built directly into the TITAN and will control motorised focus, iris, convergence and IA, either with the 3ality Technica hand controller (THC), connected to the camera body, via wireless transmission, or via Bluetooth from an iPad™ or an iPhone™, using 3ality Technica’s GUI. The TITAN also supports onboard controls, and via upgrades, other control systems will be added including the soon-to-be released Windows 8 tablet version.
Featuring two 1080p CMOS sensors, TITAN is capable of both 1080p and 2k resolution as well as a full range of frame rates, from 24fps to 60fps in 10 bit, and has fast, fully-motorised interaxial and convergence – both essential to professional quality S3D film making. Convergence is accurate to 1/1000 of a degree and the inter-axial to 1 micron.
The robust and compact TITAN body is crafted from solid pieces of aluminum for lightness, water resistance and durability. At 5 kilos (11 lbs.) the camera is designed for fast set up straight out of the box, and is Steadicam and hand-held friendly. The wireless control capability will allow the TITAN to work as a complete stand alone or fit seamlessly into other systems, providing effortless portability combined with full control.
At IBC, Meduza will also feature the Meduza Delta 4K S3D lens series , the first purpose-built, matched pair, motorised prime 3D lenses. The lens set, which includes 8 focal lengths ( 4.8, 6, 8,10, 12, 17, 23 and 35mm), has been designed and built to deliver super high precision, not only in the glass, but also in the motorised focus and iris controls. The lenses of the series are not only uniquely optically matched and sold in pairs, but each lens has been constructed to fit into a compact 38mm wide mechanical barrel to allow for very close interaxial positioning on the Meduza cameras. The lens form factor has been upgraded by Meduza’s Chief Mechanical Engineer Al Mayer to marry with the TITAN camera system design and be more flexible in integrating with other systems.
