Passive stereoscopic rear-projection onto a curved screen widens accessibility of 3D for creative use and public viewing
Enabling greater access and flexibility in 3D viewing, Calibre UK will use their PVProHD-IW processors to demonstrate dual-stacked passive stereoscopic 3D rear-projection onto a curved screen at NAB 2012.
“Providing NAB vistors with stunning 3D images as they make their way through the North Hall, Calibre UK will highlight how easy it is to access and reproduce high-resolution 3D crystal clear images onto curved shaped screens using rear projection with the use of affordable glasses and without needing a silver screen. Previous solutions were not suitable for rear projection, or required the use of expensive active stereoscopic glasses.
With Calibre UK’s system it’s possible to produce images without active 3D’s inherent flicker or motion artifacts whilst both left and right images are displayed simultaneously. This solution removes the need to use a silver screen widening up installation possibilities such as rear projection and curved screen surfaces. “We want to provide our customers a solution which reflects the growing use of 3D in viewing of 3D content, immersive viewing and even visitor attractions such as a museum or live events,” explains Tim Brooksbank, Chairman at Calibre UK.
The system comprises a pair of PVProHD-IW image scalers to perform left and right eye extraction, scaling and geometry correction and pixel perfect alignment of HD native movie content. This will be achieved using dual Eiki International projectors to display 3D native HD content.
To create the 3D effect, the left and right eye selection is achieved chromatically with interference style filters and lenses positioned on the projector lens. Content will be shown on a convex curved, rear projection screen from Stewart Filmscreen – a demonstration not to be missed at NAB 2012!
In addition to Calibre UK’s 3D demonstration, Calibre UK will be launching the FoveaHD processor and HQView530 on booth N1817 at NAB 2012 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA between 16-19 April 2012.
