SeeFront and Tobii Show Glasses-Free 3D and Gaze Tracking Arcade Game at CeBIT 2012
3D version of gaze-controlled arcade game Tobii EyeAsteroids to be introduced at CeBIT
Tobii Technology, global leader in eye-tracking and gaze interaction, and SeeFront, leading developer of proprietary glasses-free 3D technology, have teamed up to develop a glasses-free 3D version of the world’s first eye- controlled arcade game, Tobii EyeAsteroids™, which was originally introduced last fall at Dave & Buster’s in New York City. Tobii EyeAsteroids in 3D will be showcased at Tobii’s booth A29, Hall 26, at CeBIT in Hannover, Germany, March 6-10.
With SeeFront’s patented glasses-free 3D and accurate gaze tracking from Tobii’s award-winning technology, EyeAsteroids now enables users to save the Earth from impending asteroid destruction by using their eyes in a completely immersive 3D experience.
“Eye tracking is an essential component of our glasses-free 3D display technology,” said Christoph Grossmann, founder and CEO of SeeFront, based in Hamburg. “Adding gaze control to natural 3D viewing combines two highly innovative technologies for a unique user experience. Aside from gaze-controlled 3D gaming – which is great fun – additional applications of this innovative dual technology include use in medical, geographical and automotive devices.”
“Solutions for Glasses-free 3D require very accurate and robust information about the position of a user’s eyes at all times,” said Henrik Eskilsson, CEO of Tobii Technology. “We’re excited to be partnering with SeeFront to use Tobii’s eye-tracking technology to make high fidelity glasses-free 3D a reality. We expect to see high-volume applications using Tobii’s gaze and eye position technology in many other industries very soon.”
When implemented in future iterations of consumer electronics, glasses-free 3D combined with gaze interaction technology will allow consumers to use their gaze to interact in a 3D environment – unencumbered by any wearable or handheld device. The implications of this technological breakthrough have spread far beyond screen-based consumer electronics and into niche market products such as training simulators, navigation and vehicles.
