Metz Launches Primus Hybrid Broadcast Broadband Passive 3DTVs at IFA 2011
The Metz Primus range sets new standards in design and functionality. Elegantly designed in wood, glass and metal, the new 55 and 42 inch screen-size Primus models with the suffix “3D Media twin R” provide superior televi-sion entertainment. Modern 3D LED technology, the numerous networking opportunities provided by the new Metz media system and access to the HbbTV platform make the Primus range a complete virtuoso composition. Programmes can even be conveniently recorded and archived in 3D using the integrated 750 GB digital recorder.
Superior picture quality
The interplay of energy-efficient LED picture technology, sophisticated 200 Hertz technology and mecavision HD+ technology fulfils the highest of stan-dards in terms of picture quality. The colour display scores points with its vibrancy and rich contrast levels. The new Primus models make movements appear natural and master rapid panning shots with beautiful ease. The new Primus models can receive outstandingly sharp HDTV pictures without addi-tional set-top boxes via two integrated triple tuners for terrestrial, cable and satellite reception.
A single remote for all devices
Metz not only makes it easy to integrate external devices such as receivers and hard disk recorders, we also allow you to control these external devices via the new Metz remote. With its stored code database and three shift keys for switching to external devices, you can also use the new remote to control the basic functions of a DVD/Blu-ray player, a set-top box and an audio receiver.
Flicker-free 3D experience for relaxed home cinema enjoyment
The new Primus models create a genuine cinema experience courtesy of Metz 3D technology. 3D films are played in outstanding spatial depth thanks to circular polarisation and feather-light Metz 3D glasses. Circular polarisation means that the television simultaneously sends the pictures for the right and left eyes, using the properties of a special wafer-thin polarisation film applied to the LCD panel. The television polarises the light clockwise for one eye and anti-clockwise for the other. The polarisation films on the Metz 3D glasses receive this picture and ensure that each eye sees the corresponding image – making irritating flickering and restrictions in horizontal view when turning the head a thing of the past courtesy of Metz 3D technology. The Metz 3D glasses provide superior wear comfort and unimpeded 3D home cinema enjoyment, with no changing of batteries or compatibility problems with polarisation glasses by other manufactures. Genuine 3D fans will also be thrilled by 2D films on the new Primus models. At just the touch of a button, the Metz Primus converts 2D films to 3D and plays them with amazing spatial depth. Metz customers receive their first two pairs of 3D glasses for free when they buy a Metz Primus.
Metz TV at the hub of the home network
The new Primus models become the central element in the home network with the Metz media system. The new media player allows the digital transfer of film, photo and music files between the television and as many other digi-tal components in the home network as desired. Via an ethernet connection, the Primus can access files stored on other digital devices such as note-books, PCs and network hard drives (NAS) and play the archived films, pic-tures and music on the television. Furthermore, the Metz media system pro-vides access to USB storage media connected to the television via the USB port.
In addition to numerous streaming functions, the Metz media system also affords the benefits of the new television standard, Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV, or HbbTV. HbbTV offers exciting additional information on current programme content, which the viewer can access at just a touch of the red button on the Metz remote control. Content from the TV channels’ media libraries is also available directly to the viewer via the Primus. Programmes that the viewer has missed can still be watched days later on the television.
The graphic presentation of teletext for all HbbTV channels is also more up-to-date and clearly set out. It is even possible to individually configure the colour scheme, text size, window size and boxes displayed. Additional channel and service information is also available. In addition to the elec-tronic programme guide (EPG) integrated as standard in Metz televisions, an EPG about HbbTV functionality is also available. More detailed information about programmes can be accessed and if viewers miss a programme, they can access it directly in the HbbTV media libraries on the content linked by the EPG.
Stylish design in different versions
With their clear design idiom, the new Primus models are highly aesthetically pleasing. The clear visual line is manifest in the double-sided anti-reflective contrast filter panel which makes watching the TV picture even more enjoy-able. The rectangular design scores points with its high quality feel and ma-terials. The visually separate sound module lends the TV a particularly mod-ern look. Personal taste can dictate whether the Primus is positioned free-standing in the room on an elegant stand, or is placed on a surface using a table stand. Metz also offers a wall solution with or without a sound module. All versions have sensor fields on the device for local control which react to even a light touch. An OLED plain text display (not for wall solution without sound module) for the channel name and time, and a particularly high qual-ity remote control in brushed aluminium complete the Primus’s design con-cept right down to the last detail.
Exceptional sound quality
It’s not just the picture quality that excites enthusiasm for the new Primus models – but also the exceptional sound reproduction of the separate sound module. The clean reproduction of treble and bass tones without interfer-ence is the real benefit of the mecaSoundpro sound system. The high quality sound can be enjoyed via the Primus’s two-way bass reflex system or through headphones. However, surround sound fans will also get their money’s worth: multi-channel sound (e.g. 5.1 Dolby Digital) on their TV can be reproduced via their system decoder by means of optical digital audio output. A particularly ingenious concept is the possibility of using the high-quality Primus speaker as a centre speaker via connection to a surround sound system.
Integrated digital recorder and USB recording
The integrated digital recorder on the Primus models has also been further extended. A 750GB memory provides recording capacity of up to 150 hours in HDTV quality and up to 750 hours in traditional SDTV quality, even if the television is on stand-by or another channel is playing. Operation is child’s play thanks to the standard Metz user menu. Thanks to the Metz media sys-tem, recordings can be archived on external storage devices at just the touch of a button. Recording the live programme directly onto external USB hard disks is also a piece of cake with the new USB recording function. A particu-larly convenient advantage is that the digital recorder can be programmed via either the EPG integrated in the television or the HbbTV provider programme guide.
Connections for every requirement
The connection concept of the new Primus models has been further devel-oped with new connection options and now offers numerous connections at the back and side of the devices. Four HDMI sockets (one on the side and three on the back) facilitate digital picture transmission. In addition, there is a DVI-I interface which allows either analogue or digital connection of the television to a computer. Your photos and videos can be viewed quickly and easily via USB connection which also allows USB recording. In addition to this, there are two external access CI+ and HD+ compatible slide-in slots for CA modules. These offer the possibility of receiving different Pay TV channels and operating them in the usual OSD. A digital in and output allows peripheral digital audio devices to be connected. What’s more, analogue devices can be connected via two Euro/AV sockets. Furthermore, the Primus has an intelligent interface through which the television can be connected to the high-quality Metz sound system.
