Winners of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad initiative, Film Nation: Shorts, attend Pinewood Studios for 3D Master Class with top industry professionals.

As the official Audio and Visual Equipment Partner for the London 2012 Olympic Games and with a 20+ year legacy of Olympic Games sponsorship, Panasonic were privileged enough to become the presenting partner of Film Nation: Shorts. Following the inaugural ‘Film Nation: Shorts’ awards ceremony of December 2010, the first group of winners from the ongoing London 2012, Cultural Olympiad initiative were set to attend Buckinghamshire’s Pinewood Studios for the day.

The competition encourages young film-makers to produce an Olympic themed, short film to enter into a professionally judged competition. Working with Panasonic broadcast professionals and industry leaders, the 14 – 25 year old competition winners got a hands-on tutorial with the latest range of Panasonic professional broadcast cameras at the filming site of countless British blockbuster movies.

Proceedings began on the morning of the 22nd of February at the Pinewood Studio’s Panasonic Experience Centre with a guest speech and Q&A session with Paul Butler and the Sky Creative team who will talk through 3D industry trends and theory behind 3D film capture.

A Panasonic AVSE broadcast product demonstration followed, explaining the equipment and components used in complete scene-to-screen film making. Focussing on professional 3D film-making solutions, including the world’s first professional broadcast integrated camcorder – AG-3DA1, students were educated on the functionality of a range of Panasonic hardware. This included Panasonic’s P2 tape-less workflow line-up including the AG-HPX3100 broadcast camera recorder, a range of Panasonic AVCCAM models including the AG-AF101 and Panasonic archiving and mobile monitoring equipment.

Competition-winning students concluded the day with the opportunity to capture and view their own footage at Pinewood Studios on the Panasonic HDC-STD750 consumer 3D camcorder.
