Ray Zone, the ‘3D King of Hollywood’ Dies at 65
We are sad to hear of the sudden death of Ray Zone on 13 November 2012.
We had the pleasure of meeting Ray on several occasions, the last time at the NAB Show 2012 in Las Vegas. Ray was always very encouraging and generous in sharing his knowledge and his enthusiasm was infectious.

Statement from the LA 3-D Club where Ray was serving as the club’s Vice President:
It is with great sadness that I must report the sudden passing of our friend Ray Zone.
Ray passed away on Tuesday at his home in Los Angeles. He leaves a long legacy as an author, publisher, historian, photographer, filmmaker and artist. A longtime advocate of stereography as an art form, he earned the title “King of 3-D Comics” for publishing or producing the 3-D separations for over 130 3-D comic books. Ray was a longtime member and past President of the LA 3-D Club, and was currently serving as the club’s Vice President.
And he was my mentor and dear friend. Rest in peace.

Statement from the International 3D Society (via The Hollywood Reporter) where Ray was serving as the society’s historian:
“The 3D Society truly mourns the loss of our community’s best friend,” the organization said in a statement. “Ray was our mentor and advocate. As an accomplished 3D producer, stereographer and leading scholar, he helped pave the way for all of our success today. Ray served as the society’s historian and now takes his place as a treasured part of our industry’s history. He will be profoundly missed.”
