EBU Beyond HD Project Group Shoots 1080p/50 and 120fps 3D Test Sequences
The EBU Beyond HD project group switches its focus to 3DTV this week, aiming to produce stereoscopic 3D test sequences at 1080p/50 and higher frame rates. Last week the group concentrated on the creation of 4k test sequences, when the highlights included outdoor shoots around the city of Turin and at the famous Borgo Medievale castle. These outdoor shoots allowed for the creation of highly immersive critical content that can be used for testing new 4k video codecs.
This week, however, the team turns to stereoscopic 3DTV, but in full resolution producing content in 1080p/50 per eye. Again the work of the EBU group is supported by many industry partners, including ARRI, Kamerawerk, Technicolor, TV Logic and others. Once more the shoots are taking place at the premises of the RAI in Turin. As with last week’s activities, the aim of creating these sequences is to perform scientific tests to develop guidelines for EBU Members on their future technology strategies.
As a further highlight the ARRI cameras will be set to a much higher frame rate of 120 frames per second and sequences with high motion will be shot. This will allow the EBU and its Members to study the question of higher frame rates for improved motion portrayal, which is particularly relevant for sports content.
