QinetiQ Shows 3D Visualisation Tools for Training and Simulation Applications
The QinetiQ Training and Simulation Team are exhibiting their services on Stand G130 at London’s ExCeL Exhibition Halls at Royal Victoria Dock. E16 1XL from 22nd May until the 24th May.
ITEC is the key London exhibition and conference involved in the military training, simulation and education sectors
QinetiQ Training and Simulation Services focuses on helping achieve significant savings and increased performance through enhanced use of simulation technologies. Whether exploiting the latest Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) and Gaming technologies, developing standardised training system architectures, or delivering integrated training services projects, our experts will be available throughout the Show duration to advise and provide the most appropriate solutions to best meet training needs.
Arriving at the Show, QinetiQ Chief Technology Consultant Stuart Armstrong said
“3D visualisation is becoming an integral part of training and simulation technology as the drive to maximise training efficiencies continues. Bringing to life virtual scenes and scenarios in both military and civilian settings through 3D is ultimately going to benefit a wide variety of those training environments.”
During the Show QinetiQ staff will be demonstrating amongst others
• Coal Services (3D)
• Ship Mock-up (3D)
• Synthetic Wrap
The complexity and realism of live training is often constrained by the training real estate; troop availability; and lack of operational assets such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) or Fast Jets. Synthetic Wrap (SW) uses virtual and constructive simulation to overcome the battlespace limitations, expanding it beyond that immediately available to exercising units enabling more realistic training.
• 3DV AAR
3DV is a ‘high control software’ workstation, based upon NASA WorldWind, which has been developed to provide 3D AAR capability in CATT. The 3DV tool builds upon the success of QinetiQ’s Proteus software that has provided 2D AAR capabilities for the past decade.
• A situational awareness tool (SAT)
QinetiQ’s SAT provides a simple and immersive tool that allows its users to gain situational awareness of geo-specific locations and incidents. This helps users to identify enemy tactics by viewing and interrogating Improvised Explosive Device and other incident data that have taken place around them.
Videos will also be running on the Stand showing the 3D Coal Mining; 3D Ship Mock-up; PDT SAT and an overview on QinetiQ’s Training and Simulation team.
