Fraunhofer HHI Shows Trifocal S3D Production Workflow at NAB 2012
Stand C8444, NAB 2012
The Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, Heinrich Hertz Institute is a global leader in the development of fixed and mobile communication networks and the key technologies that drive them.
Solutions from Fraunhofer HHI’s Image Processing department optimize the production and post-production process of 3D services.
Trifocal S3D Production Workflow
Fraunhofer HHI has developed a system based on Trifocal Depth Capture providing a way towards a new flexible S3D production workflow with only minimal additional effort on set compared to 2D.
* A special real-time configuration can be used on set for immediate preview of depth maps in lower resolution.
* An offline high-quality configuration for post-production finally provides a dense high resolution depth map for the center camera, optimized for rendering of new virtual views.
* Plug-ins for Adobe AfterEffects offer a seamless integration into existing workflows.
Multiview Generation for 3D Digital Signage
Format conversion from stereo to glasses-free 3D display specific multiview formats is a necessary postproduction step to bring existing S3D content into public areas where 3D glasses can’t be used. 3D conversion creates the required number of extra views needed to generate autostereoscopic content. The Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI provides dedicated conversion technology for almost any type of existing autostereoscopic display.
STAN – The Stereoscopic Analyzer
The Stereoscopic Analyzer (STAN) combines realtime image analysis with intelligent visualization tools and intuitive graphical user interfaces to assist cameramen and production staff in shooting the right stereo content for 3D post-production and 3D live events. Supported by our partner KUK Filmproduction.
Live Navigation in UHD Panoramic Video
Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute has developed hardware and software framework to capture the video streams of six HD cameras mounted in a 180° mirror rig and generates a live panoramic video at a resolution of 7000 x 1920 pixel. A render engine allows pan and zoom in the panoramic video content during acquisition.
Real-time Stereo-to-Multiview Conversion
Watching 3D without glasses will be the future of 3D home entertainment. However, current stereoscopic 3D content is not suited to drive autostereoscopic displays and a 3D format conversion is required.
Fraunhofer HHI provides a solution that creates high-quality autostereoscopic 3D in real-time suitable for most existing and future autostereoscopic 3D displays. The engine offers the capability to adjust several parameters to modify the depth impression according to personal 3D viewing preferences.
