Lattice Semiconductor and Helion Demo 3D Video Camera Based On LatticeECP3 FPGA
Lattice HDR-60 Video Camera Development Kit Equipped With Lattice Dual-Sensor Board and Helion ISP Pipeline Shows 3D Images With Active Shutter 3D Glasses
At the Embedded World show in Nuremberg, Germany, Lattice Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: LSCC) announced it will demonstrate a LatticeECP3™ FPGA-based video camera supporting dual sensors and 3D imaging viewable with active shutter 3D glasses.
The 3D demo utilizes the Lattice HDR-60 Video Camera Development Kit based on the low cost, low power, LatticeECP3 FPGA, the Lattice dual-sensor headboard based on the Lattice MachXO2™ PLD and 3D ISP (Image Signal Processing) IP from Lattice partner Helion. The dual image sensor design incorporates two Aptina MT9M024/MT9M034 720P image sensors and combines the images into a single bus. The demo is viewable on standard 3D-capable displays, using active shutter 3D glasses similar to those used with home 3D televisions.
“Our technically superior ISP IP allows the depth of scene of the 3D image to be adjusted in both the positive and negative direction, so that the 3D image appears either ‘inside’ or ‘outside’ the monitor; for example, between the monitor and the viewer,” said Dr. Arndt Bussmann, Helion’s Chief Technology Officer. “The ISP also supports 3D graphic and text overlays, which can be placed with infinitely variable depth anywhere within the video field. Many different sensors, with either global or rolling shutters, can be supported.”
Applications for the 3D image processing hardware and IP combinations include automotive, surveillance, medical, infotainment and gaming, among others.
“Image Signal Processing IP with 3D capability is an important addition to the Lattice HDR-60 Video Camera Development Kit ecosystem,” said Kambiz Khalilian, Lattice Strategic Marketing Manager for Cameras and Displays. “With full 1080p60 support in streaming mode through an FPGA and without the need for an external frame buffer, the Lattice HDR-60 is the most versatile FPGA-based video camera development system on the market today. It provides High Dynamic Range, simultaneous dual sensor support, HDMI output and demonstrated 3D ISP capability.”
