JVC Professional Shows Full 3D Production Range at IBC 2011

3D camera, monitors and converter to be displayed at Amsterdam show (stand 10.D41)

JVC Professional’s expanded family of 3D products will be on display at IBC 2011 in Amsterdam in September. The JVC Professional stand (10.D41) will feature the soon to be released GY-HMZ1 3D handheld camera, along with the new GD-323D20 32 inch Medical 3D display/production monitor, our popular DT-3D24G1 monitor and the upgraded IF-2D3D1 2D to 3D Converter.

JVC Pro manufactures a wide range of 3D equipment, perfect for the production and broadcast markets. From clever 2D-3D conversion, to the latest tapeless camcorders, JVC products are built to the highest standards, renowned for their longevity and excellent performance. The company’s 3D tools, including the image converter and a 24″ production monitor, are already widely used throughout the post industry, helping content creators manage their 3D workflows.

GY-HMZ1 3D Camera

Introduced at NAB 2011 the new GY-HMZ1 is JVC’s first 3D ProHD camcorder. With its integrated 3D twin lens design, the GY-HMZ1 can simultaneously record each left and right image in full 1920×1080 resolution to non-proprietary SDHC or SDXC media cards or to the camera’s built-in 80GB internal memory.

The dual 3.32 megapixel CMOS sensors deliver 34 Mbps AVCHD recording in 3D or 24 Mbps in 2D and video can be recorded with timecode at 50i to provide smooth motion (for sports and other fast action) or 24p for a film-like effect. The GY-HMZ1 can also capture 3D time lapse and 3D digital stills. The GY-HMZ1’s 3.5-inch color LCD touch panel offers glasses-free 3D viewing and built-in tools like zebra pattern.

GD-323D20 32 inch 3D monitor

Responding to requests for a bigger screen size and a growing demand from the medical industry for 3D imaging tools, JVC Professional has developed the new GD-323D20 32-inch 3D monitor. An advancement of the Broadcast studio monitor DT-3D24G1, the GD-323D20’s passive 3D display is perfect for post production applications and for medical use in surgical procedures such as endoscopy and microscopy, allowing surgeons much greater precision thanks to the ability to see depth accurately.

The display is fully medical proofed (IEC60601-1 + IEC60950-1 compliant) and equipped with 2x HDMI 1.4A inputs and 2x HDSDI professional inputs, supporting a variety of signal types. Both input technologies have a mixer function to support individual 3D signal formats (left/right separately). The passive stereo display is fully “RealD” compatible and gives you the best performance for long-term production in 3D mode. An optional protection screen for use in surgical theatres is available and the screen fits into most surgery monitor stands.

DT-3D24G1 3D production monitor

Ideal for use in editing suites, the DT-3D24G1 24-inch production monitor features a compact screen that supports virtually any 3D camera setting, with advanced image alignment tools and 1920×1200 pixel resolution with 10-bit digital processing.

Equipped with proven DT-V series technology including an IPS panel, switchable color space, high-resolution, dual time code, waveform and vectorscope – the DT-3D24G1 monitor accepts and processes signals from dual camera systems, stereo-rigs and coded Side-by-Side and Line-by-Line 3D signals.

With its Xpol® Circular Polarizing System – compatible with widely available RealD 3D glasses – it displays 3D images that can be seen using inexpensive polarized (passive) glasses, which avoids potential flicker and power issues associated with active shutter glasses. With no need to synchronize glasses with the display, the monitor is ideal for viewing environments where multiple displays are used, such as control rooms or production trucks. Plus, the compact DT-3D24G1 can be battery powered, making it ideal for location shoots.

IF-2D3D1 Stereoscopic Image Processor

JVC has also updated the software for the popular IF-2D3D1 Stereoscopic Image Processor which offers real-time 2D-to-3D conversion to repurpose archived content and also serves as a 3D L/R mixer for monitoring 3D footage on location. Updated software offers improved 3D image shooting and editing, incorporating JVC’s extensive know-how and experience with 2D-to-3D conversion.

Our original image detection technology and multiple depth models allow for easy and automatic, mask-free creation of 3D effects and intricate background images. Conventional 2D-to-3D conversion technology uses multiple masks to layer backgrounds and manually modify each layer, resulting in a lengthy and costly conversion process. With the addition of depth models from front to back, JVC’s new processor enables natural reproduction, even for scenes with people. The converter allows for the creation of detailed, natural-looking, mask-free stereoscopic effects for human faces. Conventional 3D conversion of human faces requires detailed masking of the subject’s nose and each eye. JVC’s processor saves both time and costs by creating emboss data automatically, and has a new algorithm which improves embossing accuracy.

Typical technical difficulties in the effective 3D production of distant backgrounds and airborne scenes shot with a 2D or 3D camera have been overcome by allowing users to confirm output in real time and to adjust depth. And for excellent quality 3D we’ve added a parallax amount limit function, which limits the amount of parallax in the images reducing eye fatigue in extended viewing creating a more pleasant 3D experience.
