The Bakery Shows its Bakery Relight Lighting, Shading and Rendering Solution at SIGGRAPH 2011

Pipeline Management in Bakery Relight Central Theme of Exhibitor Tech Talk on Tuesday 9. August 2011 (15.45hrs/booth 801)

The Bakery, the 3D computer graphics software company, will be showcasing their game-changing lighting, shading and rendering solution, Bakery Relight™ at this year’s SIGGRAPH show, which takes place at the Vancouver Convention Centre (9.-11. August 2011 – stand 471). Bakery Relight was unveiled in April 2011 at NAB in Las Vegas.

The Company is also hosting an Exhibitor Tech Talk on the exhibition floor on Tuesday 9. August 2011 (stand 801/15.45hrs), which will focus on Pipeline Management in Bakery Relight and the Company’s mission to bring their unique range of tools and workflow solutions to the international lighting community.

“Bakery Relight’s powerful scene graph and integrated scripted and C++ extensions are now starting to be used to address general pipeline developments and production asset management systems,“ says Bakery co-founder and CEO, Erwan Maigret, whose credits include Technical Lead on “Shrek 2,” “Madagascar” and “Shrek the Third”.

“What we want people to understand, is that Relight is not just a renderer with a nice interface for interactive lighting and shading. It’s actually a complete 3D application suite, based on a strong scene graph with dependency tracking and dynamic scripted extensions. In addition, all modules in Relight are plug-in based, and can be developed by independent contributors.”

“We have been working closely with users for a number of years now to make Relight very open, so that studios can customize their pipeline in a way that best suits their needs, giving them complete flexibility in terms of real-time customization. Many of our team have a solid production background, so we understand the needs of our clients far greater than other R&D-based companies might do. For us, it’s all about the spirit of collaboration with our clients.”

Oscar Juárez, Technical Supervisor at Mexico-based Lo Coloco Films, explains, “Bakery Relight is a totally new kind of software. It doesn’t take long to realize that this is a solution, which has been specifically designed for lighting artists, giving flexibility at every iteration and making feedback sessions a breeze.”

“Support from The Bakery is top-notch,” adds Juárez. “They put a lot of time and effort into making us feel we took the right decision going with Relight, and making our pipeline complete without worrying about moving data from our animation software, which also allowed us to increase production values without compromising budget or render times. Relight is a ‘must have’ tool for our lighting artists.”

“We‘re constantly looking into additional custom developments with our clients in order to create new tools that can be used independently from Bakery Relight to cover additional production tasks (like particle generation, fur management, animation and rigging systems),” adds Maigret. “The potential for further applications is tremendous, and will have major implications for users in terms of achieving maximum artistic control. It’s down to us to deal with the technical constraints, leaving our clients free to work exactly as they want.”
