CMF 3D Student Film Festival Set to Screen Submissions and Announce Winners at Campus MovieFest International Grand Finale
A first of its kind, ‘CMF 3D’ in partnership with Panasonic and the International 3D Society Bring 3D Technology and Education to Student Filmmakers
Campus MovieFest (CMF), the world’s largest student film festival, in partnership with Panasonic and the International 3D Society (I3DS), will complete the first CMF 3D Film Festival during the Campus MovieFest International Grand Finale events in Hollywood from June 23-26.
In partnership with Panasonic and the International 3D Society (I3DS), the competition debuted in January 2011, offering CMF’s top filmmakers (its Distinguished Filmmakers Network) the opportunity to submit treatments for short 3D films. CMF selected approximately 50 student filmmaking teams, providing them with the latest Panasonic 3D consumer cameras and training to shoot and edit their five-minute 3D films.
“With both the industry and our students showing immense interest in 3D, we couldn’t be more excited to work with great partners and provide our students with unique educational opportunities,” said David Roemer, Co-Founder of Campus MovieFest. “We’re constantly amazed by the imagination and talent our student filmmakers possess, and we’re thrilled to see them use 3D technology to enhance their stories in ways we’ve never seen before, while getting preparation and training for industry career opportunities.”
As part of the International Grand Finale weekend, student 3D filmmakers will be attending 3D University sessions presented by industry leaders such as Buzz Hays, Chairman of the Society and Executive Stereoscopic 3D Producer, 3D Sony Technology Center, Sony Corporation of America, John Nicolard, Head of Digital Production, Fotokem, Phil ‘Captain 3D’ McNally, Stereoscopic Supervisor, DreamWorks Animation (DWA) and Keith Melton, CEO, Infinity Filmworks, Inc., provided by I3DS to continue the students’ education in this ground-breaking technology.
Jim Chabin, president of the Society, added, “The 3D Society supports 3D education as our core mission. Our partnership with Campus MovieFest allows us to identify and support the next generation of 3D movie makers.”
A panel of industry and 3D professionals will judge all submissions, with the winners announced and honored at the Campus MovieFest International Grand Finale red carpet awards ceremony on Saturday, June 25, at the Steven J. Ross Theater on the Warner Bros Studios lot in Burbank. The winning student teams will earn cash scholarships from I3DS.
