Triaxes Vision and Dimenco unveil glasses-free 3D video experience
NAB Show 2011 revealed new possibilities being developed by over 1,500 exhibitors from all areas of the media landscape. The hundreds of new products, services and trainings launched at this year’s show reflect the pace and direction in which technology is moving.
NAB Executive Vice President for Conventions and Business Operations Chris Brown noted that the 3D Pavilion, which doubled in size from recent years, sold out this year. Continued growth of a robust domestic market requires that consistently high-quality 3D content be available. This issue becomes even more challenging for glasses-free 3D content production. The new generation of filmmakers and technologies will resolve it, and the changes will touch the entire 3D workflow organization.
To James Cameron and Vince Pace, one factor that has limited wider acceptance of 3D is the realization that the process of making stereoscopic programming doesn’t fit the traditional 2D model.
NAB Show has evolved to reflect an ever-changing industry with a focus on the entire content lifecycle. The event goes beyond broadcasting to encompass the creation, management, buying/selling, distribution and delivery of audio, video and filmed content on any platform or device. The same goes for the 3D field as well. In Cameron’s words, “We realized that broadcast is the future of 3D.” Triaxes and Dimenco are at the forefront of this trend, with a digital signage solution for glasses-free 3D TV.
This brand-new solution caught the interest of hundreds of NAB Show visitors who were delighted to experience glasses-free 3D in real time. A video stream in 2D+Depth format is generated using 2 HD cameras, a regular PC with two video capturing boards and the NetJet application. Triaxes Media Player receives compressed video via DVB-T or IP and transmits it to the Dimenco glasses-free 3D display for installation, presentation and live broadcasting. And 2D+Depth is a universal format that can be played on regular 2D screens in addition to stereo and glasses-free 3D displays.
Triaxes also unveiled its latest studio product, DepthGate, a tool for converting stereo content into glasses-free content. DepthGate is the ideal solution for advertizing studios because it allows for manual adjustments of the depth map parameters to ensure high quality results.
Find this new solution on our booth 23D50 on Svyaz Expocomm 2011.
