Imagineer partners with ICO VFX to streamline stereo conversion pipeline built on mocha Pro
ICO VFX Combines Depth, Breadth of Experience with Planar Tracking Technology to Deliver Custom Streamlined Conversion Pipeline for Clients
Imagineer Systems today announced it has partnered with industry veteran VFX company, ICO VFX, to develop a streamlined 2D-to-3D conversion pipeline based on mocha Pro, Imagineer’s powerful new 64-bit planar tracking and rotoscoping VFX software.
With this announcement, ICO VFX has made a significant investment in Imagineer Systems’ mocha Pro, and is working closely with Imagineer’s development team to identify and recommend new features and product direction. ICO VFX is delivering the highest quality custom 2D-to-3D conversion services based on a mocha Pro foundation. ICO VFX has already leveraged mocha Pro’s planar tracker-based rotoscoping tools on several high-end theatrical releases, creating converted stereo content that contains hundreds of layers with spectacular results.
“The team here at ICO VFX is proud of our pioneering 2D-to-3D conversion pipeline. Partnering with Imagineer Systems on this initiative has put us at the forefront of the booming 2D-to-3D conversion industry,” said Chris Holmes, president and CEO of ICO VFX. “Imagineer’s team has helped us tightly integrate mocha Pro’s technology into our stereo conversion pipeline, and the intuitive interface has made it easy for us to rapidly scale our international operations. At our roots, we’re a VFX house that has evolved into 2D-to-3D conversion experts; no one understands the pipeline better than us and we bring that perspective and tech savvy to our clients.”
“ICO VFX is one of the top VFX facilities offering 2D-to-3D conversion services. They’re using mocha Pro, Nuke and their own custom tools to create new and efficient workflows,” added Ross Shain, chief marketing officer for Imagineer Systems. “2D-to-3D conversion projects are taking off in Hollywood and around the world. We are pleased to be working with ICO VFX, as their experience and input on new feature requirements will help our team improve future generations of mocha Pro and ensure our products grow in the right direction for our customer base. Taking advantage of mocha Pro’s intuitive workflow and seamless integration with Nuke, ICO is solving the challenges for studios tackling stereo conversion of major motion pictures in 2011 and beyond. We’re pleased to be partners in this compelling new workflow.”
At NAB 2011 Imagineer will feature a presentation of mocha Pro integration in ICO VFX’s 2D-to-3D conversion pipeline. Jeff Kalmus, VFX Supervisor at ICO VFX, will show how mocha Pro has enabled his team to efficiently produce the high-quality rotoscoping that is the foundation for the conversion process. The presentation will be Tuesday April 12th at 1:30 PM.
ICO VFX has a successful track record in Hollywood, leveraging mocha Pro in its stereo conversion and visual effects pipelines on a number of major film releases, including: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1; Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader; I Am Number Four; Justin Bieber: Never Say Never; Polar Express; Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore 3D; You Again; Step Up 3D; Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2; Something Borrowed and the Warner Bros. 3D logo.
